Fungi are an entire kingdom of life, as rich and complex as plants or animals.
Their biology: how fungi are built, how they reproduce (via spores), the role of mycelium (the network of filaments under the ground), etc.
Mycorrhizal relationships (fungi + plant roots) that most terrestrial plants rely on.
Other relationships, both helpful (mutualistic) and harmful (parasitic).
Interesting examples, like “zombie ants” (fungi that infect insects and manipulate behaviour).
Fungi and humans: their uses in medicine (like antibiotics, statins, etc.), in food/fermentation, in biotechnology.
Fungi’s interaction with other life in soils: they act as “bacterial highways,” helping other microbes move, connecting systems underground.
How fungi reproduce and spread, spores etc.
The fungal tree of life: how fungi relate to other organisms in terms of evolution, their diversity, how many species remain unknown.

Fungi are hugely underappreciated despite being essential in many ecosystems. Nearly all land plants need fungal partners to thrive.
They contribute to medicine, food, technology, etc., often in ways people don’t really think about.
There’s still a lot we don’t know: fungal diversity is vast and many species are poorly-described or unstudied.
The underground networks (mycelium, relationships with other organisms) are as important as what we see (mushrooms etc.). What we see above ground is only a small fraction of what’s happening.
